The Big Fire

Gothenburg & Brady Nebraska

Last Saturday August 3rd a fire started south of Gothenburg, NE. Winds and hot weather kept the fire from being put out. By Wednesday afternoon fire departments from around the state were there to help. Volunteers helped by fighting fire and bringing food and water to the scene. Tanker trucks, spray planes and atv's were important in fighting the fire. Thursday afternoon the Nebraska National Guard had arrived with a command post and a helicopter. Food was brought out to the Palmer Auction House south of Brady. The fire for the most part was put out on Thursday and rain played a big part of it. Fire fighters said that the trees and pine needles will burn for a long time.

Brady fire dept is still on scene tonight (Thursday)

Thanks to Garald Lambert for taking me out to fight the fire and to get these great pictures.
